We are Peter and Sara Roth. Sara and I endeavored to become entrepreneurs six years ago, just before we married. We were both in unfulfilling, underpaying jobs and agreed that we wanted to start our own business. I knew that cigars were my biggest passion, and more importantly my current cubicle job felt way too much like a scene out of the movie Office Space - complete with Swingline stapler and toner cartridge tragedies. Using the money from our wedding, some bar mitzvah money from when I was a kid, combined with personal savings, and some high-interest credit cards, the financing was complete.

Only 3 months after our later, the first Stogies & Bogeys was born as a kiosk in Park Meadows Mall. Shortly thereafter came our online store, boasting over 3,000 cigars called www.MyDiscountCigar.com, that was an immediate success. We've been at it for nearly 7 years now and love every minute of it. We love what we sell and our customers are like family. Late 2005 we decided to make the leap and go a few steps further by opening a much larger shop. We started the process by searching for retail space. We happened upon a great space that was far too big. Our creative juices started flowing and our initial idea was to build a cigar shop with pool tables. That didn't seem very exciting so we decided instead on a cigar shop and a boutique cafe. This idea still didn't seem quite ambitious enough.

We figured that if we were going to go through the pain of general contractors, engineers, architects, building permits, commercial loans, plumbers, electricians, blah, blah, blah, and serving beverages, we might as well serve the beverages that people (ie, me) really want. And if we're going to have a bar, we might as well make it a world-class one... We started as a jazz club. That concept worked nicely for about a year but unfortunately the support just wasn't there so evolution took its course. Now a few years later, Citysearch has awarded us 6 Best Of Awards for 2009 (a record I'm pretty sure!) including Best DJs, Best Singles Scene, Best Happy Hour and Best Romantic Bar. Not bad for one year!
